Can a minor child qualify for his or her own credit card account?

No, U.S. credit card companies will not provide individual credit card accounts to minors, because those under the age of 18 are not allowed to enter into legal contracts. However, a parent could add a child as an authorized user to the parent's account. This would allow the child to use a card in his or her own name without any legal responsibility for repaying the debt.
