Can I dispute a purchase made with my debit card?

When you buy things with your debit card, save all your receipts. If a problem arises related to a purchase made with your debit card, try initially to resolve the dispute with the merchant. If the merchant won't resolve the dispute with you, ask your card issuer for help. In most cases you will be bound by the store's policy on returns and defective merchandise, so before you make important purchases ask how returns and defective merchandise claims are handled. Dispute resolution assistance from your card issuer may be available only for debit card purchases made with a signature rather than a PIN ("credit" rather than "debit" at the point-of-sale, when given the option). This is an important consideration when deciding whether to sign or use your PIN, or to use a credit, which offers stronger protections in this area.
